How American Swiss sales really work

American Swiss is a TFG jewellery and watch retailer. Jewellery is the category where was-prices need the most scepticism: starting prices carry a heavy markup, so a "50 percent off" tag can still leave you paying more than the piece has genuinely sold for.

We lean hard on the recorded history here. A watch or a ring that has reached a real recorded low is a genuine deal; one wearing a deep percentage badge on day one usually is not. Where the advertised was-price tops anything we have ever seen, we say so plainly.

  • Be most sceptical of big percentage badges on jewellery; check the recorded high and low first.
  • Watches from recognised brands give a cleaner price signal than house-brand fashion jewellery.
  • A genuine clearance reaches a recorded low and stays there, rather than flipping in and out of sale.
